Recall alert: Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Jeep airbags

Stellantis, the parent company of Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep, has recalled 332,000 vehicles because their airbags may not deploy in an accident.

The recalled models include the following:

The company told government safety authorities that the problem was not with the airbags themselves. Rather, a connector on the sensor that detects whether the seatbelt is fastened may be defective. This malfunction could result in the airbag not being deployed.

The company says it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem, but has received 578 “field reports” of the problems.

To fix the problem, dealers will replace the plug.

By law, dealers do not charge fees for repairs as part of a recall.

Manufacturers try to reach out to every owner to warn them, but some may fall through the system and unknowingly drive recalled cars. Check our simple recall tool to see if your vehicle has a pending recall.
