Raleigh County man arrested and charged with fentanyl crime

SHADY SPRING, WV (WVNS) – A Raleigh County man has been charged with drug offenses after a search warrant was executed on a Raleigh County home.

Claude Spence, 65, of Shady Spring was arrested and charged with delivery of fentanyl.


Members of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and the Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force executed a search warrant on a residence on Fire Trail Road in the Shady Spring neighborhood of Raleigh County on July 2, 2024.

During the search, officers seized two weapons and a small amount of suspected fentanyl.

Spence was arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court and his bail was set at $10,000.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, all suspects/defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Members of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, Beckley Police Department, West Virginia State Police, FBI and ATF make up the Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
