NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) — New Braunfels police said they are investigating a suspected murder-suicide following a shooting Saturday night.

On Saturday, police arrived at a residence in the 900 block of Pumpkin Ridge around 5 p.m. in response to an incident related to the welfare of a woman “who had threatened to harm herself and her boyfriend,” according to a news release Sunday.

Police added that neither the woman nor her boyfriend had had contact with the family for several days.

When police entered the home, they found a woman and a man dead in a bedroom. Both appeared to have been shot. Police identified the woman as Abigail Garza, 32, of Robbstown and the man as Michael Burrer, 45, of New Braunfels.

Based on the initial investigation, officers believe Garza shot Burrer before shooting herself. The shooting is the first in New Braunfels this year and is under ongoing investigation by the New Braunfels Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
