Punjab Governor inquires about health of Shiv Sena leader attacked in Ludhiana | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit, during a visit to the city on Sunday, reviewed the health of Shiv Sena (Punjab) leader Sandeep Thapar, who was attacked with swords in Ludhiana two days ago.

Purohit met doctors and spoke to the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police of Ludhiana to get first-hand details of the incident.

Thapar suffered serious injuries on Friday when three assailants attacked him with swords in broad daylight.

The attackers, disguised as Nihangs, approached Thapar as he was riding on a scooter with his security personnel.

After a short conversation, they attacked him with swords and seriously injured him.

“As far as his treatment is concerned, he is receiving the best possible treatment,” Purohit said, stressing that Thapar was lucky to have survived. “He suffered head injuries but fortunately his brain and skull remained intact, which saved his life,” Purohit explained, adding that Thapar also suffered fractures in his hands. “He will not have any disability and will be able to work normally,” Purohit assured.

The attack took place in full view, as shown in CCTV footage. Thapar was seen talking to the attackers with his hands folded before one of them suddenly attacked him with a sword. Another attacker pushed Thapar’s security personnel away.

After Thapar fell, a third attacker struck him with a sword. The attackers then fled the scene on Thapar’s scooter, leaving him in a pool of blood. Two of the three attackers have since been arrested.

The attack occurred when Thapar (58) was leaving the Samvedna Trust office near Civil Hospital after a ceremony marking the fourth death anniversary of Ravinder Arora, the trust’s founder and president.

Reacting to the attack, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar criticised the AAP government and pointed to the “incompetence” of the Bhagwant Mann government. “There will be no obstruction and he will be able to work normally,” Purohit reiterated, assuring that Thapar will receive the necessary medical care.

Further details revealed that Thapar is currently undergoing medical treatment and his recovery is being closely monitored. The attack on Thapar has raised concerns about the safety of public figures in Punjab and prompted state authorities to review security protocols.

So far, two of the three men involved in the attack have been arrested by police. The exact circumstances of the attack are currently being investigated by the authorities.

Governor Purohit’s visit and subsequent comments underscore the seriousness of the incident and the ongoing efforts to ensure Thapar’s recovery and the arrest of all those involved.
