Two rounds of storms from Thursday to Friday morning

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – There is one alarm day for the WTVM area Thursday through Friday in anticipation of a few strong to severe storms threatening our area. Severe weather is not expected to be widespread, but some localized impacts are possible.

Warm and humid this Thursday as we prepare for rain and storms to move through our area. Highs in the low 80s. A few strong to severe storms are possible. Be prepared for the potential for two major rounds of storms, although there may be some showers outside of these periods.

ROUND 1: Several isolated showers and thunderstorms or even a broken line of storms are forecast for Thursday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, initially starting north and west of Columbus and then moving south and east. A brief, isolated tornado and some hail are possible. The biggest concern, however, appears to be damaging wind gusts.

ROUND 2: After a break Thursday evening, another round of rain and storms is possible from 3 to 8 a.m. ET. Depending on where this group of storms forms and how much the atmosphere recovers from the first round, it could pose a more organized threat of damaging winds in parts of the area. Plan for possible sporadic power outages. A tornado cannot be ruled out.

On average, about 1 to 2 inches of rain is forecast. The rain and storms will ease by mid-morning Friday and we will see a drop in humidity and a slight cooling heading into the weekend. Highs on Friday will be in the low to mid 80s.

We will wake up Saturday morning to clear skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. A pleasant afternoon is expected as we reach a high of around 80 degrees. Sunday about the same; It seems to be just a few degrees warmer and maybe a few more clouds.

Active weather is possible again at times next week, especially on Monday evening and Tuesday, as it currently looks. Occasional rain and storms are possible for the remainder of the work week.
