Shiv Sena (UBT) demands lifting of Danve’s suspension from council; says he is ready to apologise

Mumbai: Shiv Sena MPs (UBT) on Wednesday demanded that Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Neelam Gorhe lift the suspension of Opposition leader Ambadas Danve, a day after he was sentenced to the measure for using abusive language in Parliament.

The members of the upper house of the state assembly belonging to the party said that since Danve was ready to apologise for his words, his suspension should be lifted. Danve was suspended from Parliament for five days on Tuesday for hurling insults at BJP MP Prasad Lad during a council discussion on Monday evening.

Lad had demanded a resolution condemning Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha that he was not a Hindu, which drew a sharp reaction from the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab asked Gorhe to allow him to make a statement during Question Hour.

“Opposition leader Ambadas Danve has shown his willingness to apologise for his alleged misconduct and use of inappropriate language in the House. Our party leader, Uddhav Thackeray, has also apologised for Danve’s behaviour. Yet, a unilateral decision was taken in Parliament leading to Danve’s suspension,” Parab said.

“To show our solidarity with our opposition leader, the party MPs have decided not to participate in the parliamentary proceedings. We will remain silent in Parliament to express our objection to the unilateral approach,” he added.

Responding to his statement, Gorhe said: “After the Question Hour is over, we can call a meeting of party leaders to discuss the issue.”
