Fire Commissioner releases preliminary results of investigation into fatal house fire in Fayette

(PRESS RELEASE) Fayette, Ohio – The Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau of the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of State Fire Marshal continues to investigate a fatal fire that occurred Saturday morning, June 29, at 507 N. Fayette St. in Fayette, Ohio.

Two adults, a man and a woman aged 18 and 19, died in the fire. A 16-year-old man was injured and has since been released from the hospital. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office is investigating the two deaths.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Gorham-Fayette Fire Department crews were called to the scene and found the house engulfed in flames.

Initial investigations indicate that the fire broke out on the first floor of the building. After the fire was extinguished, it was discovered that there were no functioning smoke detectors in the building.

The cause has not yet been determined, but investigators do not believe foul play was involved. State Fire Marshal investigators are continuing to work with local authorities.
