Atlanta’s Top-Rated Ice Cream Shops by Customers | More

Ice cream is a delicacy that can be enjoyed all year round, although the volume produced during the warmer months indicates otherwise. The majority of ice cream and other frozen desserts in the United States are made between March and August, with July being the busiest month, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Many Americans remember their pastel green mint chocolate chip ball dripping from their waffle cone at the height of summer or cooling off with their soft chocolate and vanilla sprinkle-covered twist. Ice cream tends to scream nostalgia, but the range of flavors available has evolved since the days when the dessert was mostly limited to vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.

Of course, that doesn’t mean these aren’t still top picks. According to a May 2024 survey of 2,200 U.S. adults by the International Dairy Foods Association and Morning Consult, the top 10 ice cream flavors today are still the three classics (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, in this order), followed by pecan butter, cookies. dough, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chips, chocolate chips, rocky road and peanut butter or peanut butter cup.

These days, many ice cream parlors offer cool combinations and ingredients you might never have imagined you could turn into ice cream, concoctions like black sesame cookies and cream or lavender honey. Some ice cream parlors offer flavors with even more unique ingredients and combinations, such as tasty olive oil with tarragon or pineapple with pink peppercorns.

Ice cream creators have also redesigned frozen yogurt, soft-serve ice cream and vegan options. Dairy-free people no longer have to order the only sorbet on the menu. There are non-dairy milk ice creams made from plant-based milks like oat or almond and other plant-based products like avocado or sunflower butter.

And then there are the toppings, one of the best items to get a scoop on at your local store. Pour in the condensed milk or dulce de leche. Sprinkle with pieces of honeycomb or your favorite childhood cereal.

Ice cream parlors around the world have made it their mission to offer the smoothest, creamiest and most indulgent options. To find out who does the best job, Stacker compiled a list of Atlanta’s top-rated ice cream parlors using Yelp data. Data is from June 14, 2024.

Businesses were selected using Yelp’s rating system, which calculates an adjusted rating value that takes into account the number of ratings as well as the rating itself. Only companies that received at least 10 reviews were taken into account. Additionally, in an effort to highlight independent businesses and local chains, those with more than five locations nationwide, based on Yelp data, were not included.
