Police search for man who tried to sexually abuse 22-year-old woman

NEW YORK (1010 WIN/WCBS 880) — The New York Police Department is searching for a man wanted in connection with the attempted sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman in Central Park on Monday afternoon.

At around 1:30 p.m., officers in the Great Hill area of ​​the park responded to a 911 call about an attempted assault on the woman, who was sunbathing alone near 104th Street and Central Park West.

NYPD officials said at a press conference that the woman saw the suspect approach her and expose his genitals, prompting her to stand up and scream.

The suspect then tried to climb on top of the woman, but she managed to push him away.

Then he attacked her from behind, but she managed to fend him off a second time.

New York police are searching for a man in his 30s, 6 feet tall and described as black. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and a blue hat, authorities said.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for examination.

The investigations are still ongoing.
