JD MLC Suraj Revanna, accused of sexually abusing a man, remanded in custody until July 1

After transferring him from Hassan to Bengaluru, the CID produced the 37-year-old before the 42nd Judge of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) on Sunday evening, who remanded him in custody for 14 days.

Police have filed an FIR against him under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts committed by several persons in pursuance of a common purpose) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the 27-year-old, a JD(S) worker, filed a complaint alleging that he was sexually assaulted by the MLC at his farm in Ghannikada on June 16.

After receiving the file, the criminal police turned to the court on Monday and demanded his custody. The judge ordered him to be remanded in custody for eight days until July 1.

Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MP HD Revanna and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has categorically denied the allegations.

He further alleged that the JD(S) worker had filed a “false complaint” to extort five crore rupees from him.

On Friday, police registered a case of extortion against Suraj Revanna following a complaint from Shivakumar, a close confidant of Suraj Revanna.

Shivakumar had alleged that the party worker tried to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to file a false sexual abuse case against him.

It is alleged that Suraj Revanna’s husband initially demanded Rs 5 crore, but the amount was later reduced to Rs 2 crore.

Suraj’s father was recently arrested for allegedly kidnapping a sexual abuse victim of Prajwal Revanna to prevent her from testifying against the former MP. He is out on bail. His mother Bhavani Revanna has obtained interim bail in the same case. PTI KSU RS RS
