FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – One person is dead, one is in the hospital and another is missing following a drowning accident Sunday afternoon in Skaggs Bridge Park, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said they responded to a water rescue from the nearby San Joaquin River in Skaggs Bridge Park around 3:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers reported that two men had been pulled from the water: a drowned victim and the person who had come to their aid.

Officers performed life-saving measures on a man in his 20s, but he was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, in his 30s, was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators later learned on the scene that a third person believed to have been in the water had still not been seen. It is not known whether she managed to free herself, but a diving team has started searching for her.

The local family has identified the missing man as 23-year-old Sachin Kumar.

This is an active investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

This is the second drowning accident to occur in Skaggs Bridge Park in June 2024.
