Donald Sutherland died at the age of 88.

CAA confirmed Deadline on Thursday, June 20, that Sutherland – known for his roles MASH, The Hunger Games, animal shelter and more – died after a “long illness”.

The Emmy winner leaves behind sons Jaw57, Roeg50, Rossif45, Angus41, and daughter Rachel57. (Sutherland shares Kiefer and Rachel with ex-wife Shirley Douglas and his other sons with wife Francine Racette.)

Kiefer, an actor like his father, paid Sutherland his heartfelt tribute on Thursday.

Kiefer continued: “He never let a role discourage him, whether it was good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and you can never ask for more than that. A fulfilling life.”
