Final year student arrested for raping boy in FUOYE, wants to become first youth governor of Ondo State

Olalekan Oni, a fourth year Criminology student of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State, was arrested on Monday for rape.

The results showed that the final year student had previously announced his intention to become the first youth governor of his home state of Ondo.

FIJ learned that Oni, also known as Asiwaju, was arrested for the rape of a fellow male student. Students told FIJ that this was not Oni’s first rape, as he often drugged and raped young male students at the institution.

“He is a senior officer in the Faculty of Social Sciences. From what I have heard, he is interested in drugging and raping young male students. This has backfired,” a FIJ source revealed.

In a video clip circulating on X (Twitter), a police officer holds Oni, who is wearing a shirt and shorts, by the side as he leads him to a white police car. Close behind them and on either side of the duo are students.

While reports claimed that Oni was a board member of the Student Union (SUG) of FUOYE, SUG leaders refuted this in a Statement issued on Monday. However, FIJ found that he was the Chief of Staff to the President of the Student Union of the Faculty of Social Sciences from December 2023.

He also recently presented his project research, which ironically examines the “causes and involvement of young people in criminal activities.”

HIS GOAL: TO BE THE FIRST YOUTH GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE

A review of his Facebook posts revealed that just nine days before his arrest, he had announced that his next goal was to become the first youth governor of Ondo State.

“My next goal is to become the first young man to become governor of Ondo State. For me, becoming governor is a calling, not an ambition. I believe that God determines people’s destinies at any given moment. I believe that I have a lot to offer our people with my experience, expertise and track record as governor. And we have very clear plans for the short, medium and long term.” he wrote on June 8th.

When FIJ called Sunday Abutu, the state police spokesman, on Tuesday, he said: “We have received a report and the suspect has been arrested. An investigation has been launched. The suspect denies it while the victim is making allegations. But after the investigation, we will know who is actually telling the truth and who is lying.”
