A cruel serial rapist

Before raping the young girl in Mohammedpur, Nazmul had picked up a 25-year-old woman in March and sexually assaulted her in a car. A complaint was filed at the Mohammedpur police station on March 19. According to the police report, the woman lives with her family in Kalyanpur, the capital. On March 1, as the woman was walking along the road in front of Kalyanpur Model Government Primary School, a car came and blocked her path. Two men got out of the car, identified themselves as members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and forced her into the car. They threatened to strip her clothes and take a video of her. They later took 140,000 taka from her and dropped her off in Adabor.

The investigating officer of the case, SI Baiyzed Mollah of Mirpur Model Police Station, told Prothom Alo that they had taken Nazmul into custody for two days with the court’s permission and interrogated him. He confessed to picking up women and harassing them under the false identity of DB.

Police have found evidence that Nazmul was also involved in the gang rape of a woman who was picked up in a car from Bhashantek in 2022. According to the chargesheet filed in court, on July 11, a young woman (22) was walking outside Navy Market in Bhashantek when Nazmul and two of his accomplices picked her up and raped her in the car. They later made her father pay 20,000 taka through mobile phone and dropped her off in Rampura.

The investigating officer of the case, Inspector Abul Hasnat Khandakar of Bhashantek police station, told Prothom Alo that Nazmul, who grew up in Dhaka, was a serial rapist. He drove around the city and, whenever he got the chance, picked up women and raped them in the car. Some young women had filed complaints against her, but many avoided doing so.
