Re-investigation of the allegations against Dr. Preethi arranged

Kozhikode: Police have re-investigated survivor’s complaint against Dr. KV Preethi filed in connection with the sexual harassment case in the intensive care unit of Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Northern region IG K Sethuraman has directed narcotics cellar ACP TP Jacob to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within a week.

After a two-week protest, the survivor recently received a copy of the investigation report. She had contacted the city’s police commissioner and claimed that Dr. Preethi did not fully record her statement after the sexual harassment incident. Despite her request, the commissioner did not hand over the police investigation report to her, prompting the survivor to protest outside the commissioner’s office. The North Region IG then directed the commissioner to submit the requested report to the survivor.

After receiving the report, the survivor expressed her dissatisfaction with the examination and pointed out that it contained the testimony of a junior doctor who had not originally examined her.

The case
Hospital nurse MK Saseendran sexually assaulted the survivor in March 2023 after thyroid surgery as she lay unconscious in the intensive care unit. Shortly after the incident, the hospital director, Dr. Preethi to examine the woman and file a report. The medical college police registered the incident and recorded the statement of the doctor who conducted the medical examination, but the statement omitted crucial information, as alleged.

“During the medical examination, no injuries or bleeding were found in the survivor’s body.” No samples were taken as no internal organ damage was found. “The survivor did not complain of serious sexual assault during the examination,” said Dr. Preethi in the statement.

The survivor came forward to allege sabotage in the case after the doctor’s above statement became public. She claimed that the omission of crucial information was an attempt to help the defendant. The woman said she clearly informed the doctor about the incident.
