2 dead after motorcycle accident on Morrison Bridge

The ramp from the Morrison Bridge eastbound to Interstate 5 northbound is closed. Portions of Southeast Water Avenue are also closed.

PORTLAND, Oregon – The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is investigating a motorcycle crash that left two people dead late Thursday night.

At 8:04 p.m., officers were called to a crash at the corner of Southeast Water Avenue and Southeast Morrison Street. When they arrived, they found two dead people at the scene and a crashed motorcycle on the ramp from the eastbound Morrison Bridge to northbound Interstate 5, according to PPB.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver and a passenger were involved in an accident and were thrown over the barrier into a parking lot below,” the PPB said in a statement.

As of Thursday evening, no other vehicles were believed to be involved.

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team responded and the on-ramp from the eastbound Morrison Bridge to northbound Interstate 5 was closed during the investigation. Southeast Water Avenue is also closed between Southeast Yamhill Street and Southeast Alder Street.

The Morrison Bridge is open in both directions, as is the ramp from the westbound Morrison Bridge to northbound Interstate 5. The ramp from southbound Interstate 5 to the Morrison Bridge to downtown Portland is also open.

According to PPB, these are the 24th and 25th traffic-related deaths in Portland this year, and the fifth and sixth involving a motorcycle.
