Atlantic City man sentenced after fatal shooting

Atlantic County authorities announced Tuesday, June 11, that an Atlantic County jury found 49-year-old Kenneth Creek of Atlantic City guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.AdvertisementOfficials said that after the jury trial, the court found him guilty on another count of second-degree failure to possess firearms by certain persons.

The investigation began on August 25, 2022, when Atlantic City Police officers were called to the South Carolina Apartments Complex at 1300 Baltic Avenue in Atlantic City shortly after midnight, officials said.

When they arrived, officers said, they found 31-year-old Jordan Eaddy of Philadelphia lying dead in the grass with two gunshot wounds.

Authorities said evidence presented at trial, including video footage of the shooting, showed Creek shot Eaddy twice as he tried to flee.

The medical examiner testified that a wound to his back was fatal and led to his death, officials said.

According to authorities, Creek claimed in court that he fired the shot in self-defense.

AdvertisementThe trial began on Monday, June 3, 2024, before the Honorable Pamela Darcy, JSC, and lasted seven days, according to officials.

According to officials, Creek faces a sentence of 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison for his murder conviction.

The verdict is scheduled for September 25, 2024, authorities said.
