Houston police respond to shooting on Hillcroft Avenue in Gulfton neighborhood, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department is investigating reports of a shooting in the Gulfton neighborhood Wednesday.

HPD confirmed they received a call about the incident at 3:55 p.m. in the 6400 block of Westward Street, off Hillcroft Avenue and near the border with the Sharpstown area.

The police department has not released any specific details, including whether anyone was injured or under arrest.

ABC13 Neighborhood Safety Tracker showed that Wednesday’s police response zone recorded 1,348 assaults in the past 12 months.

The area – which is home to 51,000 people and includes Southwest Memorial Hospital, Burnett Bayland Park and Westmoreland – saw a steady decline in assaults from 2021 to 2023. In 2021, 1,542 were counted. In 2022, 1,459 have been registered. In 2023, the data showed 1,453.
