7 people homeless, dog dead after house fire in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Several people are homeless and pet-free after their house caught fire in the western Phoenix neighborhood of Maryvale on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 3:30 p.m., Phoenix Fire Department was called to the corner of 83rd Avenue and Osborn Road, where smoke was reportedly coming out of the window of a home.

Emergency crews arrived and reported a fire. They immediately began searching the house and fighting the flames that were flaring up from the floor and roof.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire on the second floor and prevented it from spreading to the attic and adjacent rooms.

The firefighters tried to save as many of the residents’ belongings as possible.

However, seven people were left homeless due to fire and smoke damage. The residents were able to evacuate the house before the fire department arrived.

According to Phoenix Fire, one of the family’s dogs escaped unharmed. However, another dog was found dead at the scene of the fire. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor ankle injury. No other injuries were reported.

The displaced family receives assistance from the Community Assistance Program in finding temporary accommodation.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
