Disneyland Club 33 employee dies in accident at theme park

A Disneyland employee died in a horrific golf cart accident at the Happiest Place on Earth.

At 11:30 a.m. on June 5, Anaheim Police and Fire Departments were called to a backstage area of Disneyland after a traffic accident involving a golf cart occurred out of sight of visitors. Anaheim Police spokesman Sergeant Jonathan McClintock told The Orange County Register that they found the employee who had fallen from a moving golf cart and hit her head. She was then taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died from her injuries just two days later, on June 7.

The woman was later publicly identified as Bonnye Mavis Lear, 60 years old, membership manager of Club 33. The traffic accident is still under investigation by the Anaheim Police Department.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of Bonnye and extend our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock told the outlet. “At this time, our focus is supporting her family and our Cast Members through this tragic event and ensuring they have the resources they need.”

Some friends and family members who knew Lear paid tribute to her on social media, all describing her as one of the nicest people you could meet. Rae Delgado, a cast member at Disney California Adventures, posted on her personal Facebook account and reported that Lear suffered a skull fracture and brain swelling from the accident, which later cost her life, according to the media outlet.

“Bonnye was traveling behind Critter Country in a rear-facing golf cart seat with three other passengers,” Delgado wrote in the post. “The driver of the vehicle was traveling at least 20 miles per hour on the track. The golf cart struck a bump/depression in the road, requiring Bonnye to react immediately. As she attempted to grab the handrail, it gave way and she fell from the vehicle.”

Delgado added that “Lear” deserves justice and compassion, not the silence that Disneyland management has imposed on his apparent co-stars.

“Managers are telling CMs not to speak to others about the circumstances of Bonnye’s death,” she added. “They are demanding silence. They want it to be forgotten.”
