HOUSTON, Texas — Charges have been filed against seven suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6802 Cullen Boulevard on May 1 and two other shootings. | Texas

Cameron Dewayne Kennon, 21, is charged with murder. Parnell Washington, 18, is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. Isaac Zarate, 23, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Four other suspects, Nicholas Jackson, 21, Jyelle Franklin, 17, Matthew Hailu Mekonnen, 18, and Jacolby Pendleton, 30, are each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity . All seven suspects are charged in the 184th State District Court.

The victim was identified as 34-year-old Eric Johnson. HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a convenience store at the above address and found Johnson unconscious in the parking lot. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation identified a suspect vehicle, described only as a silver sedan, possibly a Toyota Rav4. A surveillance photo of the vehicle was released to the public on May 14. Further investigation linked Johnson’s fatal shooting to the shooting at 3839 South Loop East on May 2, injuring a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman. , and to the 6800 block of Cullen Boulevard on May 3, injuring three men, ages 27, 20 and 22, and a 30-year-old woman.

Subsequent investigations identified the seven people arrested as suspects in these incidents. Kennon, Washington, Franklin and Pendleton were arrested on May 29 by the HPD Southeast Division Crime Suppression Team (CST) without incident. Jackson was arrested on May 30, Mekonnen on June 3, and Zarate on May 9 on an unrelated charge.

Kennon and Washington are charged in the fatal shooting of Johnson, with Washington also facing charges for his involvement in the May 2 and 3 shootings. Franklin and Pendleton are charged for their involvement in the May 3 shooting, while Jackson and Mekonnen are also charged for their roles in the same incident. Zarate faces charges for his involvement in the May 2 and May 3 shootings.
