15-year-old dirt bike rider Amelia Kotze dies after mid-race accident – ​​NBC Chicago

A teenager has died as a result of fatal injuries sustained during a dirt bike race in Australia.

Amelia Kotze, 15, had an accident while competing in the Central Coast Cup on May 25. Emergency services flew the teenager by helicopter to a children’s hospital, where she fought for her life in intensive care before being pronounced dead on May 28, 7News Australia reported.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of rider Amelia Kotze,” Motorcycling New South Wales said in a statement the following day. “Amelia, a much loved member of our motorcycle community, succumbed to injuries sustained during the Central Coast Cup on May 25. She passed away last night at the tender age of 15.”

The statement continued: “Amelia was more than just a rising star in the dirt track world; she was a model of talent, determination and sportsmanship. Her impressive accomplishments spoke volumes about her dedication to the sport.”

Kotze, who has competed in events such as the NSW Junior Track Championships and the Australian Dirt Track Championships, was named Junior Female Rider of the Year at the 2023 Motorcycling NSW Awards.

“Amelia was beloved by her fellow riders and competitors alike,” the group continued. “Her loss is deeply felt throughout our community and we will remember her not only for her incredible accomplishments on the track, but for the joy and inspiration she brought to all who knew her. During this time of great sadness, our thoughts and prayers are with Amelia’s family, friends and all who were privileged to know her.”

The message continued: “We extend our deepest condolences and support to her family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Amelia Kotze. We will miss you very much.”
