Kentucky legends Leah Edmond and Rhyne Howard reunite in Atlanta

Just days after the Atlanta Dream wished Leah Edmond and the Atlanta Vibe good luck in the Pro Volleyball Federation semifinals, Edmond showed her support for fellow British legend Rhyne Howard.

Howard, who plays for the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA, defeated the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, May 21, 83-71. In her performance, the former Kentucky guard finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists – her first double-double of the young season.

Before Tuesday’s match, Edmond and Howard made sure to swap jerseys and take a quick photo. Alongside this, both men signed their own jerseys to give to their counterpart. The Atlanta Dream posted a video of the interaction with the caption “MVP energy!” ” reinforcing the fact that the couple’s legacy isn’t just evident to Kentucky fans, everyone else can see it too.

As a Wildcat, Howard averaged 20.1 points per game over four seasons from 2018 to 2022. The former guard added 6.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. His legacy, however, is not limited to numerical statistics. While Howard scored 2,290 points in her career (which ranks second in UK history), the Tennessee native was a six-time SEC Player of the Week. In addition to an extremely impressive list of accolades, the guard was selected No. 1 overall in the WNBA draft, becoming the first-ever top selection in Kentucky Women’s Basketball.

As for Edmond, the outside hitter played for the Cats from 2016 to 2019. With 1,978 career wins, she earned the title of Kentucky’s all-time wins record holder. On top of that, Edmond led his team to three straight SEC championships. Before turning professional in the United States, Edmond played for Valencianas de Juncos (Puerto Rico) and Athletes Unlimited from 2021 to 2023. Now, Edmond is making his mark in Atlanta for PVF’s Vibe show.

It’s good to see that Big Blue Blood never runs out, especially for two of the best female athletes to ever grace the floor of Memorial Coliseum. While the Vibe’s 2024 season ended last week, the Dream’s is just beginning. It’s very likely that we’ll see more from the pair in the coming weeks.
