‘Senseless’: Teenager attacked on walk died of stab wound, Edmonton police say

A 15-year-old St. Albert boy who was attacked while walking with his mother and dog Tuesday night died from a stab wound, police said.

Broden Radomske, 15, died at the scene after he was randomly attacked by a man near 137 Avenue and 184 Street around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. An autopsy by the Edmonton Medical Examiner on Friday determined his cause of death was a stab wound and the manner of death was homicide.

“This is a tragic loss that has affected the entire community and our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends, classmates and everyone else affected by the senseless death of a young person,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Leathem of the Edmonton Homicide Unit in a news release Friday.

“We would like to reassure the public that the suspect has been arrested and there is no threat to public safety.”

Officers from Edmonton’s Northwest District, who were called to the scene of the accident Tuesday evening, attempted life-saving measures but were unable to save the boy.

The deserted street, where the residential area of ​​St. Albert ends and Edmonton begins, is popular with dog owners. The teenager and his mother regularly walked their pit bull there.

His mother, who was at the scene Wednesday afternoon, told Postmedia she believes the attack was triggered by a mental breakdown. She and her son knew the attacker slightly.

Her son was walking behind her when the attack occurred.

Radomske, who played hockey and school basketball at St. Albert during the 2023-2024 season, had a large circle of friends in the community. The school district offers counseling at the St. Albert schools he attended.

Edmonton City Police said Thursday that 40-year-old Keith James Landry is charged with first-degree murder.
