Israeli troops kill Hamas man who the army says attacked a West Bank post

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) – Israeli soldiers killed a member of the Islamist group Hamas on Friday who the army said was among the attackers who threw firebombs at a military post in the occupied West Bank.

The military said the attack on the post took place near Psagot, an Israeli settlement.

“Soldiers conducting routine operations at the scene identified the suspects and responded with live ammunition. Two attackers were neutralized and shifted for medical treatment,” it said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said one of the men later died from his injuries. Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip but also enjoys strong support in the West Bank, claimed the man as a member.

Violence has raged in the West Bank for more than a year, accompanied by increased Israeli military attacks, increasing settler attacks on Palestinian villages and a spate of Palestinian attacks on Israelis.
