Families in St. John’s County are reeling from the revelation that their neighbor was arrested in a joint operation by the Jacksonville and Clay County sheriff’s offices.

A neighbor expressed his horror, saying: “I’m surprised. I just can’t believe it.”

According to the arrest report, Chad Sadlowski, a 33-year-old respiratory therapist at Mayo Clinic, was communicating on the app Whisper and believed he was talking to a young girl. In fact, it was an undercover agent.

While the details of his conversations remained secret due to their explicit nature, authorities intervened when he arranged a meeting point for the illegal encounter, leading to his arrest by the JSO on April 28.

Neighbors who live near Sadlowski’s home, which is near a field frequented by children, expressed concern about the proximity.

“Every night there are dozens of children in this area right across from his house,” one resident noted.

Action News Jax attempted to contact Sadlowski’s family at their home but received no response.

A neighbor mentioned Sadlowski’s child and often observed him playing together outside.

“When I see him outside, he is usually outside playing with his child. He seems like a really nice family man. I would have invited him to dinner without a second thought,” the neighbor remarked.

Another neighbor said: “I’m disappointed.”

Sadlowski is facing serious charges including: traveling to a meeting after obtaining parental/guardian consent using a computer, soliciting a child’s guardian via computer to authorize a sexual act, unlawful use a two-way communication device and the production/promotion of performances relating to sexual acts by a minor. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
