Evansville police arrest a man after a rape investigation was launched in Ohio

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Evansville police have arrested a man on rape charges following an investigation that began in Ohio.

According to an affidavit, a teenager told Columbus authorities that Willie James Lamar Hemphill, 39, had sexual intercourse with her several times since she was 15 years old. The teen told authorities that Hemphill would ask if she was ready and that she would say no, but that the sexual contact would still occur.

Evansville police said they contacted Hemphill and scheduled a meeting on March 22 to discuss the alleged incident. Police say Hemphill never showed up at the police station, although he said he waited in the lobby for “a few minutes.”

Hemphill was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and charged with rape. He is being held on a $25,400 bond.
