Atlanta Braves News: Atlanta Acquires Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson, Reynaldo Lopez Remains Day-to-Day, More

On the field Monday, the Braves suffered another frustrating loss in the series opener against the Brewers.

Off the field, Alex Anthopoulos brings back some familiar names, including outfielder Jorge Soler to help address some of the Braves’ offensive needs. The Braves acquired Soler and Luke Jackson from the Giants while sending Tyler Matzek to the Giants in the trade. Beyond Soler’s offensive potential, the Braves also managed to keep the prospect’s cost down by taking nearly all of Soler’s contacts. That could open up the Braves to make some additional moves on Tuesday.

Adding Soler may seem like an odd move, as he is primarily a designated hitter and is owed a lot of money for each of the next two seasons. However, Soler is a solid baserunner who also offers tremendous power potential. While he wasn’t as good in 2024 as he was in 2023, he did produce some excellent offense in July. As a result, Anthopolous really likes to bring back names that have had success on his teams. And with Soler, he now adds another impact hitter who has added value in both the regular season and the playoffs.
