DIG Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao suspended for ‘serious misconduct’ | Pragativadi

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha state government on Tuesday suspended 2007-batch IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for serious misconduct in connection with an incident that occurred within the jurisdiction of the capital police on the night of July 27.

Pandit has been serving as DIG of the Fire and Home Guard since last May.

A statement from the Home Ministry said the suspension was based on a confidential report by the Odisha Director General against Pandit. “The officer is suspended with immediate effect pending disciplinary action for serious misconduct in his capacity as a member of the Indian Police Service.”

During his suspension, he has to remain at the state police headquarters in Cuttack. “He will not be allowed to leave the headquarters without the permission of the DGP,” the statement added.

According to a press release from the CMO, Chief Minister Majhi took immediate action after coming to know about the incident after his arrival from Delhi.

The Prime Minister ordered the suspension of the senior police officer and ordered departmental action against him to ensure appropriate action.
