San Francisco police shoot armed robbery suspect – NBC Bay Area

Police in San Francisco killed an armed man during a confrontation in the Tenderloin district on Sunday evening.

Police said they were called to the area between Willow Street and Van Ness Avenue around 11:55 p.m. to investigate an armed robbery that occurred on McAllister Street.

When they arrived, they attempted to approach a man armed with a firearm, but this resulted in a shootout and the suspect was struck by gunfire, police said.

Rescue workers administered first aid to the armed man and took him to hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries, but he was eventually pronounced dead.

His identity was not immediately released by police.

Police said the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the District Attorney’s Office, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the San Francisco Police Department’s Internal Affairs and Investigative Services divisions, and the Department of Police Accountability.

“All information is preliminary and subject to change. This remains an open and active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. As part of SFPD’s commitment to transparency and accountability, a town hall meeting will be held within ten days regarding this officer-involved shooting,” police said.
