T&F: Huskies complete day one at SLC Outdoor Championships

HOUSTON, Texas – Following the opening day of the 2024 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at Rice’s Holloway Field, HCU senior Scott Boon holds third place in five decathlon events while six runners qualified for Saturday’s final.


Boon opened the day with 814 points in the 100 meters thanks to a time of 11.21 before clearing a PR mark of 7.35m/24-1.25 to add 898 points in the long jump. He then collected 642 points with a throw of 12.59m/41-3.75 in the shot put followed by a height clearance of 1.94m/6-4.5 for 749 points. Boon finished the day with 802 points with a time of 50.28 in the 400 meters to bring his points total to 3,905 in five events. He trails UIW’s Isaiah Hudgens by just 121 points.


During the evening running events, the seniors Jessica Rabius kicked off the Huskies by winning their 800-meter heat with a time of 4:47.69 while in the men’s 800m, senior Alex Piquart also advanced after winning his heat with a time of 3:58.39 with freshman Albin Wallenius also earning a spot in the final with a mark of 3:59.07. Junior Denzel Hinds earned a victory in her 400-meter hurdles heat, crossing the line in 53.80, to qualify for Sunday’s final. The women’s 400h saw two other HCU runners advance to Brianna Hinds posting a time of 1:03.55, placing fourth, and Keys of Lanaye finishing in 1:06.19, to place eighth.


Day two of the SLC Outdoor Championships begins Friday at 11:00 a.m.
