56-year-old man charged with alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece

A 56-year-old man charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece appears at Suva High today.

The man appeared before the Nasinu Magistrate Court last Friday and was remanded in custody.

According to police, between April and May this year, the man threatened to inform the victim’s aunt about an incident in which she was seen talking to a boy if she did not give him something he wanted.

They say the man then led the victim into her backyard and committed the crime there.

Police add that the girl told the incident to a friend, who then informed her teacher.

A report was filed and the incident was investigated by the Nakasi police.
