York County man arrested for shooting police car faces additional charges – Daily Press

YORK – A York County man who was arrested after police say he fired shots at a police car following a road rage incident was charged Thursday with three counts of attempted aggravated murder of police officers.

These charges are in addition to charges filed Wednesday against 35-year-old Andrew Francis Susalis, which include two counts of attempted premeditated murder, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of reckless handling of a firearm, criminal damage to property and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Authorities said Susalis fired about 100 shots from a high-powered rifle when they arrived in the 300 block of Mark’s Pond Way shortly after noon. James City officers had headed to the address in upper York County after receiving several calls that someone in a blue sedan had fired shots at an occupied car near Anderson’s Corner.

On Mark’s Pond Way, one officer suffered minor injuries from bullet fragments, but no one else was injured. A York-Poquoson sheriff’s deputy who arrived during the shooting was also unharmed, as was Susalis.

Police did not return fire because they were initially unsure where the shots were coming from, York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery said Wednesday. They took cover while the firing continued for about five minutes.

Susalis came out of his home and turned himself in, authorities said. He is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
