Georgia Southern University student shot and killed

A Georgia Southern University student was shot and killed early Wednesday morning and a friend faces manslaughter charges in connection with his death, according to Chief Deputy Jared Akins of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office. Bulloch patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Planters Lane in Statesboro at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, where they found 20-year-old Blake Shurling of Tennille, Georgia, dead inside the apartment. After examining the scene and conducting several interviews, Coleton Weatherford, 20, of Planters Lane was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter, reckless conduct and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
