WICHITA, Kansas (KSNW) – A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a man to 281 years in prison for raping five girls between 2010 and 2022.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office told KSN that David Mendoza was sentenced to five life terms for his crimes.

These five life sentences are “hard 25” sentences, meaning he must serve the full 25 years before being eligible for parole. If he is paroled for any of them, the next life sentence will begin.

In addition to these life sentences, Mendoza was sentenced to 372 months in prison, which he must subsequently serve.

In total, Mendoza was sentenced to 281 years in prison.

A jury found Mendoza guilty on May 6 on a total of 25 counts:

  • Six cases of rape
  • 13 cases of serious sexual assault
  • Four cases of serious sodomy
  • A case of criminal sodomy
  • One count of kidnapping

Investigators said the victims were all girls he knew and were under 14 when the assaults began. Some of the cases date back to 2010. The most recent case occurred in May 2022.

Mendoza was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail in November 2022 and has been there since then.
