Community Alert: Level 3 Sex Offender Alert

SAFFORD – A Level 3 sex offender has an address registered.

Joshua Fontes, 34, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, registered his address as 109 S. 8th Ave., Safford. Mr. Fontes was convicted in June 2013 of sexual exploitation of a minor and child abuse.

The Safford Police Department is releasing the following information pursuant to ARS 13-3825, the Community Notification on Sexual Offenders Law. Notification is required when certain sex offenders are released from the Arizona State Prison, admitted under an interstate compact, or released back into the community from a county prison. It is the responsibility of the Chief Law Enforcement Officer to have jurisdiction where the offender intends to be to inform the community.

The person listed on the notification has been convicted of a sexual offense, which allows Safford Police to make a community notification. The Graham County Sheriff’s Office has notified Safford Police that he/she will be staying at the listed location. This individual is not currently wanted by the Safford Police Department or any other law enforcement agency.

This notification is not intended to incite public fear, but rather to inform the community of a sex offender living in the city and to comply with ARS 13-3825. Community Notification is an anti-sex offender law designed to make our community an informed and safer community. Citizens who use this information to threaten, intimidate, harass, or harm that individual will not be tolerated and will face prosecution against anyone who breaks the law.
