Drunk driver pleads guilty to manslaughter in crash that killed NDCS employee in October

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – The Beatrice man accused of driving while drunk and killing a longtime NDCS employee has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, court records show.

David Warren, 39, entered his guilty plea on Monday and his sentencing is scheduled for August.

On Oct. 28, he struck the end of a semi-truck’s trailer, crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a Toyota Tundra. The Tundra’s driver, 53-year-old Bradley Kreifels, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office said.

Kreifels’ wife also suffered injuries and had to undergo surgery.

Bradley worked for NDCS for 30 years, most recently at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.

According to the arrest affidavit, a blood test showed Warren’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. Warren’s driver’s license had also been suspended at the time because he had two previous drunken driving convictions.
