According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, officers attempted to stop a Chevy Camaro for a traffic violation on Highway 80 north of Tombstone at around 9:13 p.m.

The driver of the Camaro did not stop, but increased his speed to 120 mph, forcing other cars off the road. Officers and the Tombstone Marshal’s Office continued the pursuit.

At some point, the Camaro stopped, a man in camouflage clothing got out and ran away. The Camaro then continued driving, reaching speeds of up to 190 km/h.

Department of Public Safety officers used equipment to deflate the tires and damaged three of the four tires.

The driver, 21-year-old Efren David Cosme Malohua of Mesa, was arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail on charges of human smuggling, unlawful escape and reckless driving.
