Barricaded suspect arrested in Fountain after hours-long standoff | Crime & Justice

After a standoff that lasted through the afternoon, a barricaded suspect was arrested on a felony warrant in Fountain on Wednesday evening.

Shortly after noon on Wednesday, a man entered the lobby of the Fountain Police Department and reported to officers that he had been assaulted by another adult male, later identified as 41-year-old David Stewart Jr. Stewart was reportedly still in the apartment where the alleged assault occurred.

Before officers responded, they were informed that Stewart had an outstanding warrant from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for second-degree kidnapping.

When officers arrived at the apartment in the 300 block of North Main Street, they attempted to make contact with Stewart but reported that they were unsuccessful.

To ensure safety, an emergency message was sent to all residents within a quarter-mile radius. The message advised residents to stay in their homes and stay away from doors and windows.

The police Rapid Response Team took over the scene and after about five hours of negotiations with Stewart, the man was arrested. He will be booked into the El Paso County Jail on a felony warrant and new charges of aggravated assault, police said.
