ERO Boston arrests fugitive wanted in Ecuador for child rape

Last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested an Ecuadorian man in western Massachusetts. The man, whose identity is not being disclosed, was wanted in Ecuador on child rape and invasion of privacy charges.

“This Ecuadorian refugee is facing some very serious charges, but instead of facing justice, he fled and attempted to seek refuge in Massachusetts,” said Todd M. Lyons, director of ERO’s Boston field office. “He posed a significant threat to the children of our communities, and we cannot allow that to happen. ERO Boston will continue to put the safety of our people first by apprehending and deporting serious non-citizen offenders from New England.”

According to ICE, the man was initially arrested by border patrol agents near the US-Mexico border in Arizona in June 2021.

He was released with a summons to appear before an immigration judge. Ecuadorian authorities issued an arrest warrant in May 2023.

ERO Boston deportation officers arrested him on June 12 near his residence in Northampton, Massachusetts.

This incident highlights ICE’s efforts to locate and deport individuals wanted in their home countries for serious crimes. In a recent nationwide operation, ICE arrested several individuals wanted for human rights violations.
