Lynching investigation: Investigation into Udayan Hostel lynching incident | Kolkata News

Calcutta: Investigation of murder of a 37-year-old TV and mobile mechanic who was allegedly lynched by its residents at Udayan Hostel on Nirmal Chandra Dey Street on Friday, police have summoned the hostel manager to check the background of the 14 arrested youths and find out whether they have any history of violence on the hostel premises.
The hostel’s manager, however, was not at the scene when the incident occurred after residents accused the man of stealing the night watchman’s cellphone from the premises. Police said the youths, who are in police custody until July 4, were questioned and cross-examined both individually and collectively throughout the day as police say there are differing versions of events from the residents.
In Salt Lake, Polenite arrested the three for allegedly lynching their neighbor on Saturday. They told police they had no intention of killing Prasen Mandal. They had slapped him when he accidentally fell and died. They took Mandal to the hospital, where he died.
