Head-on collision in bus accident: 2 dead, 12 injured

Two bus drivers were killed and twelve passengers injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in the Kamarpara-Abhaya area of ​​Godagari upazila on Saturday evening.

The deceased drivers were identified as Ratan Sutradhar of Bholahat Upazila in Chapainawabganj and Asadul Haque of Belkuchi in Sirajganj.

Giving details of the incident, Abdul Matin, the duty officer of Godagari police station, said that a Madina Travels bus travelling from Chapainawabganj to Rajshahi collided with a Hanif Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Chapainawabganj at around 11 pm. The collision occurred when the Madina Travels bus tried to overtake a truck at high speed, resulting in a head-on collision with the Hanif Paribahan bus.

Both the buses were badly damaged, OC Abdul Matin said. Rescue teams immediately arrived to rescue the injured and shifted them to the 31-bed Godagari Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The police recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them to the morgue for autopsy.

The accident caused a significant traffic jam that stretched for about 10 kilometers on both sides of the highway. The situation was finally brought under control after the two buses were removed from the road, according to OC.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause and possible negligence.
