Case of Sturgis man charged with sexually abusing two tied up girls | WKZO | All Kalamazoo

CENTREVILLE, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The case of a 25-year-old Sturgis man charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of two young girls during a March burglary has been bound over to St. Joseph County District Court.

Miguel Hernandez-Ruiz is charged with first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a person under the age of 13.

After a preliminary hearing before the district court, he was allowed to stand trial.

Hernandez-Ruiz is being held without bail and his first appearance in District Court will be set next week.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said at the time of his arrest that he was being held in immigration custody after the Mexican citizen’s temporary work visa expired in December 2021.

Hernandez-Ruiz was wanted in connection with the March 20 incidents at the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park near Sturgis.

The Sheriff’s Office tracked him to Fort Wayne. With the assistance of local, state and federal law enforcement, they initiated a sustained surveillance operation that led to his arrest.

Law enforcement agencies assisting the sheriff included the Sturgis Police Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, St. Joseph County Operations Center, Indiana State Police, Michigan State Police, Indianapolis Metro Police and its Violent Crime Task Force Team, TSA, ICE, FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
