11-year-old boy killed in toy train accident at Chandigarh mall | Latest news from India

An 11-year-old boy named Shahbaz Singh was tragically killed in a rare toy train accident at Elante Mall in Chandigarh on Saturday evening.

According to police, Shahbaz had come to the mall with his parents from Nawanshahr area of ​​Punjab at around 9.30 pm. While riding the toy train, he fell and sustained severe head injuries. He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Shahbaz’s body was handed over to his parents on Sunday evening after the autopsy. The Chandigarh police have registered a case under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to culpable homicide.

“The boy was travelling in the car with his parents at Elante Mall when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died during treatment. The police have not arrested anyone in this incident so far,” Ram Gopal, deputy commissioner of police, Chandigarh, told PTI.

The case was registered in Industrial Area Phase 1 and CCTV footage was also taken from inside Elante Mall to investigate the accident.

Shahbaz’s father, Jaitenderpal Singh, told police that his son was sitting in the last compartment of the toy train with his cousin when it overturned. Shahbaz suffered head injuries while his cousin escaped unhurt. In the CCTV footage that went viral on social media and purportedly from the mall, the boy is seen leaning outside the compartment of the toy train when it overturned at a bend in the mall. The video also shows people at the accident site running towards the train, which has since been seized by the police.
