TPSO now believes Loranger’s mother was killed on Wednesday morning

WDSU has learned new details about the timeline of a Loranger woman’s death and the abduction of her two daughters. Chief Jimmy Travis of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said Callie Brunett was killed Wednesday morning, nearly a day before she was even reported missing. According to TPSO, they now believe Brunett’s daughters Jalie, 6, and Erin, 4, were also abducted Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours before an Amber Alert was issued around 12:28 a.m. Thursday. The new timeline came to light after WDSU reached out to TPSO for answers after reading Brunett’s obituary, which indicated her death date was Wednesday, June 12, the day before her body was discovered in her home. “We believe the mother was murdered sometime early Wednesday morning and he left the house with the children,” Travis said. According to Travis, their investigation began Wednesday night after Brunett’s father reported that she and her daughters, Jalie, 6, and Erin, 4, had not returned home. This new detail from Travis appears to mean that Callie Brunett was already dead when officers began their investigation. “We checked hospitals, we checked our systems, we checked with other local agencies. We tried to get phone signals, GPS locations of her phone, phone records, you know, we tried to determine her last whereabouts,” Travis said. WDSU has learned that Brunett’s father lives on the same property just feet away and called 911 because he did not see Brunett, her daughters or her vehicle. “There was no reason at all to believe that she was dead in that home,” Travis said. He said after they learned of Brunett’s murder Thursday morning, they began issuing an Amber Alert. Travis confirmed they had missing details but explained why that information was not available. “For an Amber alert, someone has to witness the kidnapping and be able to give the description of the kidnapper. We didn’t have that. We had a dead mother, a missing car and two missing children,” Travis said. The new details from Tangipahoa also reveal that it was Daniel Callihan’s sister who named him as a suspect. According to Travis, the sister called and said Callihan reached out to her after the alleged murder and kidnapping. “She was the one who put him on the radar. Daniel Callihan’s sister said, ‘Hey, he contacted me yesterday. He was in McComb, Mississippi, with a flat tire and wanted me to Cash App him some money, but I didn’t,'” Travis said. Travis told WDSU that after the Amber alert was issued, several people called her department saying they saw the vehicle in Mississippi on Wednesday as well. The sheriff’s office said as the investigation continues, they are working with all agencies involved to tie all the details together. “What we need to do now is piece this all together,” Travis said. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold a joint press conference with the FBI and Jackson Police. The press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25.

WDSU has learned new details about the timeline of a Loranger woman’s death and the kidnapping of her two daughters.

Chief Jimmy Travis of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said Callie Brunett was killed Wednesday morning, almost a day before she was even reported missing.

According to TPSO, they now believe Brunett’s daughters Jalie, 6, and Erin, 4, were also abducted Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours before an Amber Alert was issued at around 12:28 p.m. Thursday.

The new timeline came to light after WDSU reached out to TPSO for answers. Brunett’s obituary revealed that her death date was Wednesday, June 12, the day before her body was discovered in her home.

“We believe the mother was murdered sometime early Wednesday morning and he left the house with the children,” Travis said.

According to Travis, the investigation began Wednesday evening after Brunett’s father reported that she and her daughters Jalie, 6, and Erin, 4, had not returned home. This new information from Travis appears to mean that Callie Brunett was already dead when officers began their investigation.

“We checked hospitals, we checked our systems, we checked with other local authorities. We tried to get phone signals, GPS locations of her phone, phone records, you know, we tried to determine her last whereabouts,” Travis said.

WDSU learned that Brunett’s father lives just a few feet away on the same property and called 911 because he had not seen Brunett and her daughters or their vehicle.

“There was no reason at all to believe that she died in that house,” Travis said.

He said after learning of Brunett’s murder on Thursday morning, they began issuing an Amber Alert. Travis confirmed they were indeed missing details, but explained why that information was not available.

“The Amber Alert requires that someone witness the kidnapping and provide a description of the kidnapper. That was not the case. We had a dead mother, a missing car and two missing children,” Travis said.

The new details from Tangipahoa also reveal that it was Daniel Callihan’s sister who named him as a suspect. According to Travis, the sister called and said Callihan contacted her after the alleged murder and kidnapping.

“She was the one who put him on the radar. Daniel Callihan’s sister said, ‘Hey, he contacted me yesterday. He was in McComb, Mississippi with a flat tire, and he wanted me to send him some money on Cash App, but I didn’t,'” Travis said.

Travis told WDSU that after the Amber Alert was issued, several people called their department and said they also saw the vehicle in Mississippi on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said it is working with all agencies involved to determine all details during the ongoing investigation.

“What we need to do now is put it all together,” Travis said.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold a joint press conference with the FBI and Jackson Police.

The press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25th.
