Sassa officials suspended | South Coast Herald

Ten employees of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) were suspended from the Marburg office.

Sassa KZN has confirmed the suspension.

Spokesman Sandy Godlwana said the action was taken to investigate alleged misconduct.

“It was taken into account that the presence of employees at the workplace could hinder the investigation. During the suspension, employees will continue to receive their salary and benefits.”

She said to ensure business continuity, officials from regional, district and neighboring offices have been seconded to help the office maintain operations during the suspension period.

In a matter unrelated to the suspensions, Anthony Graham said his brother-in-law went to collect his pension last Tuesday and was told he had to re-apply.

“He was registered in February and received two payments. When he went to the bank to collect his pension, there was no money in his account. He then contacted the Sassa office in Marburg and was informed that he was not in the system, even though he had proof and had been given a reference number. He was told that he would have to reapply for the grant.”

Godlwana said that this is a special case and that the customer needs to go to the local office for verification.

She has also contacted him to find out more details and to help him.
