Mark Adams Prieto was charged with firearms trafficking, transferring a firearm for use in a hate crime and possession of an unregistered firearm on Tuesday, June 13. The charges come after he unknowingly sold weapons to an undercover federal agent between January and May to help him carry out the attack, according to a news release from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office. Local law enforcement intervened and arrested Mark Adams Prieto on May 14 while en route to New Mexico from Arizona.

Authorities said in the statement that it “was in possession of seven firearms and was taken into federal custody. Law enforcement then executed a search warrant at his home in Prescott. where they seized even more guns.

Authorities began investigating Mark Adams Prieto after receiving a tip from an anonymous source. The individual revealed to the FBI in Phoenix that Prieto said he wanted to incite a “race war.” They alleged that over the past three years Prieto, who was a salesman at gun shows, repeatedly told them he wanted to specifically target blacks, Jews and Muslims, according to an affidavit. The source said in court documents:

Prieto estimates that martial law will be implemented shortly after the 2024 elections and that a mass shooting is expected to occur before then.”

The FBI began monitoring Prieto in January and on January 21, he revealed to the source and an undercover FBI agent, who posed as the source’s friend, that he needed their help to carry out a mass shooting at a rap concert in Atlanta. Prieto said, according to the affidavit,

“The reason I say Atlanta. Why, why is Georgia in such a state of crisis now? When I was growing up, it was one of the most conservative states in the country. Why not now ? Because as crime got worse in Los Angeles and St. Louis and all these other cities, all the (N-words) left those (places) and moved to Atlanta. That’s why it’s not so great anymore. And they’ve been there for a few years, several years.

He sold a gun to an undercover agent for $2,000 in February.

The next month, Prieto told the source and undercover agent that the targeted event would be a rap concert at State Farm Arena on May 14-15, i.e. where and when Bad bunny, who is Puerto Rican, was playing.

He also said he wanted to target a rap concert because there would be a lot of African Americans there. He would then leave conservative flags at the scene.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or both, for each of the charges against him.
