Former Atlanta Hawk Dion Glover hosts basketball camp at Worth County High School

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) – In coach Paul Williams’ first year in Sylvester, he led the Worth County Rams to their first winning season since 2018.

Winner; a culture that Coach Williams tries to perpetuate and one way to maintain it is to learn from some of the best, and who better to learn from than former Atlanta Hawks first round pick Dion Glover.

Glover traveled to 229 to host a two-day basketball training camp at Worth County High School. Ball handling, shooting, conditioning and footwork will be the main focuses of Tuesday’s camp. Ball players ages 3 to 12 were not only able to take advice from Glover, but also from coach Greg Robinson, coach of the Atlanta Celtics. An ATL-based AAU team that has produced stars such as Glover himself, Jumaine Jones and Dwight Howard. Coming to Sylvester was never a question for Glover when it came to helping his good friend Coach Williams develop his vision.

“I like to give back first and foremost, and secondly, my great friend Paul Williams is a great guy and this is something he asked me to do. He doesn’t need to ask me twice because our relationship is very strong, so I really wanted to see the talent in this field and just meet new people I love talent I grew up when Marietta, Georgia was a country town, so I. ‘still have a special place for lots of trees, lots of back roads, lots of cows and stuff like that I think it’s phenomenal, they worked hard today and you can tell the ethic of. work and everything else is there and I think some really good players are going to come out of this school,” Glover said.

“I just think about the culture that we’re trying to build. You know, you bring in a guy like Dion, an NBA player, Georgia Tech, an Atlanta Hawk guy and you know he came all the way from Atlanta to put this together. It’s cool for me to watch him, but for the kids, I just think of someone of that caliber coming down to Worth County,” Coach Williams said.

The second day of camp will begin Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
