Dead sand tiger shark washes ashore in Little Compton

LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A sand tiger shark was found last week at Tappen’s Beach in Little Compton, according to the Atlantic Shark Institute (ASI).

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, sand tiger sharks are threatened with extinction.

Given the declining population, these sharks are of great importance to researchers, the ASI said.

The shark is now with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and will undergo an autopsy at the Apex Predator Lab in Narragansett.
