Sundre woman charged with sexual assault

A Sundre Minor Hockey Association volunteer faces multiple charges in connection with an alleged sexual assault of teenagers.

In a news release Monday, the RCMP said it had launched an investigation and determined there were four victims, all teenage boys.

Alexa Suitor, 32, of Sundre, Alabama was arrested and charged with sexual battery, sexual assault and four counts of providing sexually explicit material to a child.

She was released on condition that she appear in court in Didsbury, Alabama, on April 22.

The RCMP said no further information would be released because the case was before the courts and the privacy of the victims was to be protected.

CTV News spoke to a parent of one of the alleged victims, who confirmed that all of the teens were under 16 years old.

The parent, whose identity is unknown, said the alleged sexual assault took place at a New Year’s Eve party, after which several boys were sent sexually explicit photos via text message.

The parents are dismayed and say: “She has taken away their innocence.” They want to encourage other victims to come forward.

In a statement emailed Monday afternoon, Sundre Minor Hockey said the defendant is neither a coach nor a manager, nor is he otherwise directly involved in any youth hockey program.

“Sundre Minor Hockey is aware that a volunteer who served in a leadership capacity on the board is currently under investigation by the RCMP,” the statement said.

“Although the allegations have nothing to do with hockey activities or Sundre Minor Hockey, we have removed this individual from the board while the matter is before the courts.”

Due to the ongoing police investigation, the ice hockey association stated that it would not make any further comments.

The superintendent of the Chinook’s Edge School Division, which oversees schools in Sundre, said support is available to the victims.

Sundre is located about 115 kilometers northwest of Calgary.
